General

The average is around 20 weeks. The sooner in your pregnancy you hire your doula, the longer you have to reap the benefits and the longer you have to establish your relationship. At which point in your pregnancy you choose to hire a doula may depend on your finances. Some may need more time to utilize a payment plan while others may wait longer. There have even been instances where a doula was hired after a due date. So honestly, ANYTIME is a great time to hire your doula!

I like to reach out once a week just to check in to see how your pregnancy is going and how you are feeling. But you can reach out to me as much as you'd like.

That depends on when you feel you need me. Some may choose to have me in early labor and some may wait longer. I am available to you whenever you are ready to call me.

It means that I am available to you 24/7 through call/text beginning your 37th week of pregnancy, I will be present for your labor within 2hrs of your call, and that while on-call I will be no farther than 2hrs away (no vacation or travel).

No, I am not a trained medical professional. I will never give you medical advice or perform any type of medical procedures. I will only ever offer you evidence-based facts for you to make your own informed medical decisions.

Absolutely! I am not a replacement for your partner, rather an addition of support to your birth team. Doulas are known to help facilitate partner involvement and support, creating an overall better birth experience as a couple. Having a doula attend your birth can really help to bring out the best in your partner. Helping to show them how to be present for you and attentive to your needs, when otherwise they may not know how. Doulas work WITH your partner, tag teaming if need be so you have constant support from us both. Together we show up for you the best way we can. It can be an extremely powerful bonding experience for you and your partner.

I like to keep no more than 2-4 clients per month.

My role as your birth doula is the same regardless of how you deliver your baby. What changes in the process of a C-section is the type of support you and your spouse may need. In the event of an emergency c-section, do to the sudden change of plans and the anxiety from having to have major surgery, my focus would  be on you and your partner's emotional and informational needs. During the cesarean I would serve as a witness to your story, if allowed, I can take photos and video to help you document your birth. Once born, dad usually goes with baby therefore, I would stay by your side while they finish up. Afterwards, I can help get you established with nursing (if that is your plan) and skin to skin bonding. In the event of a planned cesarean we would have the added benefit of some prep time where support could look like aromatherapy, massage, meditation, some play board/card games as a distraction, etc..
